THE ZIRA MIND AND BODY APPROACH
The Integrative Neurological approach involves understanding when to use modern medications and injections (such as Botox Type A and Trigger Point injections) and when to use natural nutrient or amino acid supplements (Magnesium or 5HTP, for example) or herbals (Ashwaganda, Amla, Holy Basil, etc). In addition, specific dietary recommendations and lifestyle/exercise routines may be prescribed to fit your needs.
The goal of our work is to find your ideal dosha, or mind-body type. The dosha is a combination of 5 elements: air, space, fire, earth and water that each of us possess.
Some of us, at birth have more air and space (Vata dosha), some have more earth and water (Pitta dosha) and some have more earth and water (Kapha Dosha).
WHY SEE AN INTEGRATIVE HEADACHE NEUROLOGIST?
Migraine is a condition which is still largely under diagnosed and poorly treated. Most patients with headaches are dissatisfied with current treatment options and suffer needlessly.
Doctor Trupti Gokani, is Board Certified in Neurology and is the founder and director of the Zira Mind and Body Center in Glenview, Illinois. Neurologist, Dr Gokani, has spent the last decade working in headache clinics in Chicago understanding the complexities of treating the headache prone individual. This background allows a broad understanding of the role medications and non-medication approaches play in headache relief.
The success of treating a headache patient is based on the understanding that headache is potentially a manifestation of multiple systems gone awry. Thus healing the system with “cocktails” of medications, supplements, herbs and injections allows patients achieve an optimal state of health. The key to success lies in understanding the root cause of pain, and to then identify all of the underlying causes of pain, rather than just treating the pain alone.
Hidden sources of pain such as subclinical thyroid issues, vitamin deficiencies, digestive or hormone issues, when corrected, may help decrease or eliminate the headaches all together. Combining this with Yoga, Breathwork, Dietary changes, Massage, Acupuncture, Physical therapy, and /or Cognitive therapy often leads to success. It may not be a quick fix, but a journey that leads you down a path to the optimal state of health individualized for your unique mind-body type.
DOSHA TYPES
Vata
Vata Dosha individuals tend to have a smaller body frame and are governed by movement. Think of air and space creating wind and wind blowing thru your body. How would you feel?
Pitta
Pitta Dosha individuals tend to have a medium build and are governed by metabolism. This fire and water element type gets heated easily and often has a warm body.
Kapha
Kapha Dosha individuals tend to have a larger build and are governed by structure. This earth and water element type is very grounded and stable. The body is cool and the mind is often cool,
